Can Roger Federer hold his French Open title in 2010?

French Open 2010 is almost knocking at the door. The second Grand Slam of the year is going to start from 23rd May 2010 and it will continue till 6th June 2010. It will be an exciting event as top ranked players will fight for this prestigious title. World No. 1 male tennis player, Roger Federer, is the defending champion of this event. He won his maiden Grand Slam in clay court. Now, this year, he will try his best to hold the trophy second time and continue his winning streak. He will start his campaign at the Estoril Open Portugal on Wednesday.

Roger Federer lost to Ernests Gulbis in Rome last month, but could make his strong come back against German journeyman Bjorn Phau as he triumphed 6-3, 6-4 in the third-tier ATP Tour event.

Roger Federer is now in good form but he is expected to face a tough challenge against Rafael Nadal. You should know that Rafael Nadal is the most experienced and successful player in clay court. Rafael Nadal was suffering from injury. However, he is now totally fit. His victory in the Rome Masters 1000 will encourage him to not only retain his trophy but also poised to be a biggest obstacle in the success of Roger Federer.

Croatian second seed Ivan Ljubicic has withdrawn from this tournament because of his stomach strain. It ended the world No. 14’s campaign in Rome. His absence has made the path easier for Federer’s journey to a second success in Estoril.

It will be interesting to see if Rafael Nadal can retain his title once again.
