Aravane Rezai made upset against Venus Williams at the Madrid Open final

Former No. 1 tennis player, Venus Williams, was beaten by the unseeded player Aravane Rezai at the final of Madrid Open on Sunday.

Aravane Rezai got her third career WTA title with a 6-2, 7-5 straight-set victory over Venus Williams.

She also made upset against Justine Henin in the first round and Jelena Jankovic in the quarterfinals of this tournament. She won her two previous titles last year at Strasbourg and Bali. With these victories, she improved to 3-2 all-time in WTA finals.

Aravane Rezai is currently ranked 24th in the WTA ranking. It is hoped that she would progress into the top 20.

Aravane Rezai could easily move into the final round as Lucie Safarova rook took retirement after the first set with a thigh injury.

Venus Williams failed to achieve her third title of 2010 and fell to 2-2 in finals this year. She won titles at Dubai and Acapulco but lost to Kim Clijsters in the Miami final.
