Rafael Nadal Could Make a Strong Come back in Australian Open 2010

Rafael Nadal did not have a very good year in 2009 as he suffered a lot with his injury and is now planning to limit his participation in clay court tournaments from this year. However, the Spaniard looks very confident after his performance in Spain’s successful Davis Cup defense. Spain led by Nadal thrashed Czech Republic 5-0 in the tournament final and it indicates that he would come back strongly in 2010.

The confidence with which he led the Spanish Davis Cup team, it is pretty much clear that Rafael Nadal is gearing up to win big titles in 2010. He suffered a lot due to his knee injury in 2009 as he failed to defend his French Open and Wimbledon title, but still it was not a bad year for the Spanish superstar. He won his first Australian Open title and then went on to win four tour titles before winning the Davis Cup with Spain. Overall, Nadal fans do not have anything to worry about their favorite player as he seems to be in great shape at the moment ahead of Australian Open 2010.

Australian Open Tennis 2010 Knocking at the Door

Only a few days are left before the start of Australian Open tennis 2010. This time, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova in good touch. So, I am curious to see that if we will see any of these two to grab ladies title or we will see another player. As for the men, Federer will hope that 2010 can start with a winning note with this title.

Serena Williams bounced back from mediocrity to regain the No.1 spot, Maria Sharapova returned to action with some success after months of injury and, above all, Kim Clijsters won the US Open weeks after coming out of retirement.
It was the popular Belgian's emotional triumph in New York in September that was the storyline of the year.
A burned-out Clijsters retired in May, 2007, subsequently marrying and giving birth to a baby girl.

Maria Sharapova Keen to Give a Shot at Fashion Designing

Former world no. 1 of women’s tennis Maria Sharapova has expressed her desire to be involved in fashion designing. She finds designing fashion clothing a creative job and wants to explore it. In fact, she has also indicated that she could be involved in fashion designing in a large scale after her retirement from tennis.

fibre2fashion reported:

She said, "I love designing and also love the fact that it's very creative and since the world of tennis has opened up many doors, I intend to explore all of them”.
She added by saying, “And designing fashion clothing is certainly one of them and I definitely hope that after my tennis career, I will be able to expand on that."

Her tennis skill coupled with her beauty helped Sharapova gain a celebrity image throughout the world. However, it seems that the Russian is now busy in her out-of-court activities. It is true that Maria Sharapova has already won 3 grand slam titles and she is still 22, but the way she is going now, it seems that she is gradually going to follow the footstep of fellow Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova.

Maria Sharapova returned from a shoulder injury after a long lay-off and did not have enough success since winning the Australian Open 2008. So, Sharapova should be more focused on her game; in stead of spending time in fashion designing. She is just 22 now and it is not the right time for a sports star to think about what he or she would do after retirement.

Former world no. 1 tennis great Andre Agassi has now published his autobiography titled "Open: An Autobiography." He may not have any fame as a writer, but the eight grand slam titles winner now wants to share the insight of his life sketch with millions of tennis fans. He dominated tennis court across the world for a brief period of time, but now he is ready to show his writing genius.

One of the attractions of his autobiography would be the temptation of knowing a great player, how he became a tennis star, how he sees the game etc. Aside from this, tennis fans would also like to go through the book to know an era of tennis which sees the ups and downs of some other great players like Pete Sampras through the words of Agassi. In the book, Andre Agassi revealed that, unlike many other great players, tennis was forced on him by his family in his childhood. He also writes that he was confused throughout his career during which he saw many ups and downs.

Justine Henin to Return to Tennis with Brisbane International in January 2010

You already know that Justine Henin is going to make a come back to tennis circuit in Brisbane International, starting from 3 January 2010. The former world no. 1 announced her retirement from tennis in 2008, but she has recently announced her comeback. She has already received a wildcard entry in the Brisbane tournament which also has four other former world no. 1 players.

It is expected that Justine Henin would find it very hard as she could possibly face fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters in the first round. Actually, Clijsters’ heroic return this year may have been the source of inspiration for Henin. Moreover, it would be hard for Henin because it is the first tournament she is going to play in almost 2 years. Naturally, she herself may not expect to win the title and a poor performance would not even frustrate her fans too. However, some good display of tennis would definitely boost up her confidence ahead of Australian Open 2009.

Is Australian cricket missing the biggest coaches?

Right now, Australia does not have that many talented players in tennis. In the past, they had some outstanding players who could dominant the world at least who could play in top level of tennis. Now, there are some concerns in the country that they are not getting the services of the top coaches in the country. Australia could consistently produce some of the finest coaches in the world and the best five of them are not related to tennis Australia, the national body for tennis. This has raised some concerns and sports administrator has urged them to get these best coaches and this way arrange the upcoming players to get some direct coaching from these best coaches.

However, it seems that tennis Australia is not too much eager at this moment. Of course, one of the problems is perhaps they don’t have enough money or they thing that they don’t need top coaches. I think that Australian government can come forward in this regard. They can easily allocate some money or they can try to convince the officials of tennis Australia to change their mind and appoint the top five coaches of the country. If it happens then the players and specially the teenagers will get a lot of support from thoroughly world class coaches.

Roger Federer is ready to face tough challenge in the ATP World Tour Finals

ATP World Tour finals will start just after two days. Best players from different countries take place in this tournament. Swiss tennis star Roger Federer is one of them. Former top-seeded player Roger Federer said that this year he will face a tough challenge as all of the contestants are in good form and they all have possibility to win the trophy. In the last six years, Federer won this title. This matter may create extra pressure on his shoulder. But he is thinking that he will have to face a tough challenge to keep his form and title. Eight players will fight for one title. Federer lost his top place and another great player Rafael Nadal can not make any dominance in the tennis court. Young players are continuously performing well. I want to remind you one thing is that Roger Federer was beaten at the hand of Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open and Rafael Nadal was defeated against Robin Soderling at Roland Garros. Novak Djokovic is always a strong contestant in any title.

However, I think that Roger Federer should want to regain No. 1 position after winning the title. Fans should eagerly wait to see this competition between the great tennis players.

Kim Clijsters Diasspointed at the Doping Ban Imposed on Fellow Belgians Yanina Wickmayer & Xavier Malisse

US Open champion Kim Clijsters has revealed her utter disappointment at the one-year ban imposed on compatriot Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse for their failure to fulfill the "whereabouts rule". Wickmayer failed to complete the ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) on three occasions, while Malisse did the same twice and miss a dope test. That is why, both of them were given one-year bans by the Flemish Doping Tribunal (VDT).

Kim Clijsters thinks that they were handed a punishment that they do not deserve as they were not tested positive in the doping test. However, US Open semi finalists Wickmayer and Malisse can still appeal against the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Initially, it was thought that the two young Belgians would only be given some warning for their mistakes. So, the one-year suspension came as a big surprise. Now, let us see if Court of Arbitration for Sport overturns the verdict given by VDT.

Serena Williams Finishes the Year at No. 1 in WTA Ranking

Serena Williams is definitely the most successful women’s singles player for the year 2009. Winning two out of four grand slam titles, this American has now finished the year as top ranked WTA player. However, she got involved in a controversial battle with the line judge during a US Open match against the eventual champion Kim Clijsters. That incident is still under inspection and Serena could still be suspended for that unfortunate event.

Dinara Safina who was also no. 1 for a brief period during the year now finished second in the year-ending ranking. She did not win any grand slam title, but reached the finals of Australian and French Open. Svetlana Kuznetsova follows Safina in the third place as the Russian won her second grand slam title in French Open defeating fellow Russian Safina in the tournament final.

Dane Caroline Wozniacki comes fourth in the ranking as she has done something unprecedented this year in her career. She reached the final of US Open which is her first ever appearance in a grand slam final.

Kim Clijsters made a dream return to tennis by winning the US Open title just after playing 2 tournaments following her return to international circuit. Though she now stands at no. 18 in the ranking, her recent form indicates that the Belgian is one of the strong contenders of the no. 1 position next year.
