Shakib Al Hasan Named Wisden Test Player of the Year 2009

All rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been awarded the Wisden Test Player of the Year 2009 award for his excellent all round performance during the period between September 2008 and August 2009. Bangladesh vice captain was instrumental behind Bangladesh’s test series win in West Indies. During this period, Shakib scored 498 runs at 35.57 and picked up 45 wickets at an average of 23 claiming five-wickets on five occasions.

Other contenders of the award were Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, South African opener Graeme Smith, Indian star Sachin Tendulkar and South African all rounder Jacques Kallis. Gambhir and Smith came second and third respectively, while Tendulkar and Kallis were tied at the fourth place.

Shakib Al Hasan is delighted at this achievement and said that he always works hard to become the best cricketer and does not get upset for failures. He also said that Bangladesh has now a number of match winners and believes that Bangladesh would be a much better side after few years.
