Ricky Ponting on Andrew Flintoff Fitness ahead of Ashes 2009

Ricky Ponting has said that an injury-hit Andrew Flintoff would not help England much when they face Australia in the forthcoming Ashes 2009 series in England. English all rounder Flintoff is currently suffering from knee injury and has recently been ruled out of next month’s Twenty20 world cup 2009 because he has not recovered from knee surgery. Flintoff was instrumental in England’s historic Ashes triumph in 2005 at home, but the player failed to make any impression during England’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Australia in 2007, and thus, losing the Ashes title.

Ponting said that if Flintoff does not retain his fitness 100 percent, then it would be a great challenge for English selectors to make a decision on his selection. Indicating Flintoff’s contrasting performance in 2005 and 2007 Ashes series, Ponting said that the fitness level of Andrew Flintoff would be vital for England in Ashes 2009.

Well, it is true that the all rounder has been suffering from a series of injuries since the start of his career. So, though it has been reported that he would retain his fitness hundred percent, I am not quite sure if Flintoff would be able to get back his fitness ahead of Ashes 2009 series.
