Indian Cricketers Concerned about Fitness ahead of Twenty20 World Cup 2009

Indian cricketers are now currently getting good practice in the IPL 2009 ahead of ICC Twenty20 world cup 2009. You might say that Indian cricketers will have a big advantage when they will fly to England to take part in the ICC World Twenty20 2009 tournament next month as they have had enough opportunity to prepare themselves for the most prestigious twenty20 tournament.

However, there are some problems too. First of all, Indian cricketers will hardly have any rest before they head to England in order to defend their twenty20 world cup title. Indian team have been in action since the start of New Zealand tour during which they played 3 tests, 5 ODIs and 2 twenty20 matches, and the players did not have enough rest as IPL 2009 was knocking at the door. Now, IPL 2009 will come to an end with the 24th May final, and then within a week, they have to set off for twenty20 world cup mission. Naturally, players might be exhausted and it may have an impact on their performance in twenty20 world cup at least to some extent.

Moreover, injuries could be another threatening concern for Indian team. All the members of India’s twenty20 world cup squad are currently playing in IPL 2009 and it is very likely that some of them might pick up injuries which could rule them out from the tournament. Though nothing has happened like this yet, the senior players like Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag are currently sidelined with minor injuries. However, the Indian players are taking precautionary rest, considering twenty20 world cup 2009 tournament.
