Among India’s famous big four (Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble), only Tendulkar and Dravid are active in international cricket. In fact, it is only Tendulkar who is still playing both ODI and test formats of cricket for India with Dravid being specialized for test matches.
Well, India seems to be facing a serious question when it comes to their opening combination in ODI cricket. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have been playing extremely well in the opening slots in both forms of cricket. When Sachin Tendulkar returns to limited over cricket in the first ODI against New Zealand, India’s in-form opening pair was broken to make way for Tendulkar who opened India’s innings along with Sehwag.
There are many who think that it was not a right move to break an in-form pair who had been giving India a solid platform pretty consistently over the last one year. There is no doubt, Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greats in world cricket, but I am not sure whether it was right to break the opening combination in favor of Tendulkar’s great career.
