The recent terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket team and ICC referee and match officials in Lahore has left Pakistan cricket in an uncertain situation. It is believed that no cricket playing country would like to visit Pakistan on a cricket tour following this attack that left eight dead and 14 injured. Security has become a serious issue for Pakistan over the last one year due to series of bomb blasts and terror attacks on various locations across the country. However, a terror attack on a visiting cricket team and ICC officials never happened in the past. So, the recent attack has definitely heightened the security concern in Pakistan and it is pretty much clear that there will not be any international cricket match in Pakistan for the time being.
Moreover, Pakistan has a million dollar television rights deal with Ten Sports and under this contract, Pakistan must play a certain number of series at home which will be telecast on Ten Sports. In that case, PCB must seek neutral venues to organize Pakistan’s home matches. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are now considered to be the next destination of Paksitan cricket as the authority of both venues are eager to organize Pakistan’s matches against foreign countries. Moreover, there are a large number of Pakistan fans in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and it is expected that Pakistan’s home matches will be held in these two venues from now on. Well, Canada might show interest to host Pakistan’s matches until foreign countries are willing to tour Pakistan.
