Muttiah Muralitharan Becomes Highest Wicket Taker in ODI Cricket

Muttiah Muralitharan has at last become the highest wicket taker in ODI cricket replacing former Pakistan great Wasim Akram today as he picked up the wicket of centurion Gautam Gambhir in the fourth ODI against India, taking his ODI wicket tally to 503. The great spinner also holds the record for most wickets in Test cricket.

During the innings break in the fourth ODI, Arun Lal took a short interview of Muttiah Muralitharan. He looked very happy. Muralitharan admitted that it was a great achievement. When asked who he would dedicate this achievement, the off spinner said he would dedicate it to his family who had provided immense support throughout his career. He also added that it was a great achievement for Sri Lanka too because he felt it was something special for someone coming from a small country like Sri Lanka and reach such a height in world cricket.

Arun Lal also asked him about the controversy regarding his bowling action. In reply, Muralitharan said that he had never felt guilt of doing anything wrong because he knew he was honest. He also remembered all the supports he got from his captain, Sri Lanka cricket board and Sri Lankan people during his tough time when he was facing ICC’s ban for defective bowling action. Muralitharan said that he grew up seeing the greats players like Viv Richards and Kapil Dev, whom he idolized in his childhood.
