Sri Lanka Clinched the ODI Series Winning the 3rd Match by 234 Runs

Sri Lanka clinched the 3-match ODI series 2-1 winning the third match by 234 runs. Batting first, Sri Lanka put on 309 runs on the board, but in reply, Pakistan failed to show any resistance against the Sri Lankan bowlers as they got all out for 75. Sri Lanka piled on a huge total thanks to a tremendous unbeaten century from opener Tilakaratne Dilshan who remained not out on 137 off 139. Wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakara scored 50 runs. Pacer Umar Gul picked up 3 wickets for Sri Lanka.

Cricinfo reported:

Sri Lanka's struggles against weak sides in recent months seemed a distant memory after the rout. The victory brought back memories of the time their bowlers dismantled India for 54 at Sharjah in 2000, after the batsmen had posted 299. They were not favourites to win this series, primarily due to an out-of-form top order, but the batsmen collectively shrugged off their poor form. Tillakaratne Dilshan set it up with a mature 137, Jayasuriya contributed 45, and Sangakkara made 50.

Chasing a big total, Pakistan started losing wickets from the beginning of their innings. Sri Lankan pacers Nuwan Kulasekara and Thilan Thushara picked up 3 wickets each, while spinner Muttiah Muralitharan bagged 2 and Ajantha Mendis got 1 wicket. Dilshan got the man of the match award for his century.
