Kevin Pietersen: I was Forced to Step Down

Kevin Pietersen said that he was forced to quit as England captain by ECB following his fall out with England coach Peter Moores. Former English captain also said that he was puzzled when he had got a phone call from managing director of England cricket, Hugh Morris, asking him to step down from his job. In reply, he asked the reason behind his resignation, but was not given any clear explanation. Pietersen also received an email from ECB, stating that his resignation had been accepted. At that time, Pietersen thought that Moores remained as English coach, but later on, Moores was also sacked from his job.

The rift between captain and coach started when Pietersen informed ECB that it was unable for him to continue as England captain under Peter Moores. There were rumors in the media that some senior players like Andrew Flintoff were not happy with Peitersen’s strategy. However, Pietersen said that senior members like Andrew Flintoff, Strauss, Steve Harmison, and Paul Collingwood all backed him as England captain and asked him not to step down from the job.
