Global Credit Crunch and Indian Premier League Season 2

Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2 kicks off from April 10, 2009. The star-studded cricket tournament will see its second season being held this year and cricket fans are eagerly waiting for this. However, questions remain if IPL second season becomes as successful as the first season, despite the global credit crunch. The tournament duration has been increased by one week and this is definitely good news for cricket fans who are delighted to be able to see cricket extravaganza for a week more. BCCI officials have nothing to worry about as they already received loads of money from franchise owners, sponsors and television broadcasters. However, franchise owners might find it difficult to cope up with increased operational cost.

Because of economic slowdown, franchise owners may not spend big amount in IPL auction, starting from February 6. However, the fall of Indian rupee against US dollar might lead to an increase in the salary of the players. Finding sponsors might also be a problem for the teams because sponsors are now more concerned about their spending.
